The City of Miami is not only showing growing signs in terms of its population increasing due to the COVID-19 outbreak but also displaying major progress in sustainable growth, due to a recent study from Commerical Cafe.
Out of 5,000 cities with populations over 1 million, Miami broke into the top 50 most sustainable cities in the USA, coming in at number 35. Miami proved to be a leader in;
- Reducing CO2 emissions
- Improving air quality
- An increasing number of LEED-certified buildings - it’s 2nd best scoring metric
- Increasing green transportation - placing an overall 3rd among all recipients showing major advances in bike lanes, e-scooters, and walking-friendly routes
And the City of Miami showed its continued commitment to battling climate change when Miami-Dade County Mayor Levine Cava named Jane Gilbert, a longtime local public and community leader, as Interim Chief Heat Officer, making her the first person globally to hold the title.
